He has written, coedited, and contributed to three volumes, The Biblical Tour of Hell (T&T Clark), Character Studies in the Gospel of Mark (T&T Clark), and New Testament and Empire (Society of Biblical Literature), which are all forthcoming. He has been teaching lower and upper division undergraduate courses in biblical literature and ancient history for the past fourteen years at Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California, where he was recognized as professor of the year in 2010. In addition to his expertise within the field and the classroom, he has published articles in more popular formats, such as the Dictionary of Everyday Theology and Culture (NavPress), which intentionally attempts to bridge the divide between the academy and the church. Alongside teaching and mentoring undergraduates and graduates, he also serves as Theologian-in-Residence within his local church body, Mountainside Communion. Matthew lives in Monrovia, California, with his wife, Olivia, and their three children, Ryan, Mateo, and Cruz.

Dr. Hauge is a regular speaker at professional conferences across the country on ancient literature and is available as a speaker for colleges, universities, divinity schools, civic groups, and religious organizations of all kinds.
